Mt Tarampa State School opened its doors on 23 July 1906. There were 22 students enrolled in that first year. The school was built on land that was offered for sale to the Department by Mr James West. In 1908, the community made a request for improvements to the building and the following year a second verandah was added. A school residence was built in 1918. With an increase in enrolments from 56 in 1918 to 80 in 1919 the School Committee applied to the Department for extra land. An additional 3 acres was added to the site by resumption from Mr West’s property. The school celebrated its Centenary in 2006.

Today, Mt Tarampa State School draws most of its population from a fairly well defined geographical area. The community consists of some older established families and a number of newer members who live on 5 - 10 acre rural blocks. There are few local employment opportunities. Some people work in nearby towns. There is no access to public transport apart from the school bus.

Mt Tarampa State School offers modern, well equipped classrooms that are fully air conditioned. Each classroom boasts an interactive whiteboard and full wireless internet access. Student to computer ratio is very low with ready access to laptops for classwork.

Mt Tarampa State School is committed to providing a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment for students and staff, where students have opportunities to engage in quality learning experiences and acquire values supportive of their lifelong wellbeing.
